Petrie School of Music Presents Piano Clinic
The Petrie School Music at Converse College will present a Piano Clinic February 13-14 featuring renowned pianist and teacher Marian Hahn. The clinic is open to all high school-age piano students and their teachers.
Hahn holds the Singapore Conservatory of Music Chair in Piano at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. She performs internationally and is in high demand as both a competition juror and artist/teacher.
In addition to Hahn, the faculty will consist of Babcock Professor of Piano Douglas Weeks, Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy Melanie Foster Taylor, Assistant Professor of Organ and Music Theory Leon Couch, and Director of the Lawson Academy of the Arts Paula Sigler Morgan.
Participants will experience personal instruction, outstanding performances and lectures by Hahn and members of the Converse College piano faculty. Applications for participation should be submitted by February 9. Late registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis. The cost is $40 per participant.
The clinic will open with a Friday evening recital by Hahn at 7:30 p.m. in Blackman Music Building’s Daniel Recital Hall. Admission for the recital only is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Blackman Lobby, and personal lessons will commence at 9:30 a.m. Hahn will conduct a lecture at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon (free of charge for participants). Afternoon activities will include a master class, lessons and an Honors Recital held in Daniel Recital Hall. Students are asked to prepare two solos of contrasting styles for coaching by the Converse piano faculty in a thirty-minute open lesson.
